In November, I shared an update on the launch of the Starbucks Workers United unfair labor practice strike and the early wave of solidarity from workers, customers, and allies across the country. Since then, the strike has continued—and momentum has only grown. With baristas still holding the line, strike leaders are now preparing to share what comes next.
Union Starbucks baristas have been on strike since November, taking action to confront illegal union busting and demand a fair first contract. Starbucks Workers United is made up of our union siblings within SEIU, and their struggle reflects shared values across SEIU affiliates: dignity on the job, the right to organize without retaliation, and accountability when employers break the law.
Support for striking baristas has remained strong. Customers and allies continue to apply pressure by refusing to buy Starbucks and demanding the company resolve its unfair labor practices. Rather than tapering off, that collective action has intensified.
A Notable Milestone Since November
One milestone stands out since the last update. The Downtown Disney Starbucks workers recently marked 70 days on strike, coinciding with Disneyland’s 70th anniversary. While the company highlights celebration and legacy, workers are making history of their own—demonstrating endurance, solidarity, and a sustained commitment to winning respect and a fair union contract.
Across the country, striking baristas and their supporters have shown that sustained action matters. With unfair labor practice charges still unresolved, organizers have made clear that this moment calls for deeper engagement and clearer next steps.
February 2: Join the Starbucks Workers United Solidarity Call
As the strike continues, Starbucks Workers United is convening a national Solidarity Call on Monday, February 2, bringing together striking baristas, labor leaders, and allies to share updates and outline the path forward.
The call will be emceed by Christi Gomoljak, a Downtown Disney barista and Strike Captain, who has been on the front lines of the strike and will guide the conversation.
Featured guest speakers include:
-
April Verrett, President of SEIU International Union
-
Nina Turner, Founder and President of We Are Somebody
Additional guests will be announced.
This call as an opportunity to hear directly from striking baristas, connect with movement leaders, and learn how continued consumer and community pressure can push Starbucks to end illegal union busting and resolve all pending unfair labor practices.
Why This Moment Matters
Many supporters have already taken action by skipping Starbucks. According to organizers, this next phase is about sustaining and expanding that pressure—ensuring workers have the backing they need to secure a fair union contract.
The February 2 call is intended to:
-
Share on-the-ground updates from striking baristas
-
Highlight the ongoing role of consumer and community solidarity
-
Clarify what supporters can do next to keep pressure on the company
As the strike moves forward, public attention and participation remain critical.
