The Senate Ways & Means Committee will hold a public hearing on Friday, Feb. 6 at 1:30 p.m. on the proposed Millionaires Tax (SB 6346) — a critical revenue bill that would generate billions in sustainable funding for public education while helping fix Washington’s upside-down tax code.
Under this proposal, less than one percent of the wealthiest households would pay a 9.9% tax on income above $1 million. Households earning under $1 million would pay nothing. The measure is projected to generate $3.7 billion annually, supporting essential investments in K-12 schools and helping stabilize funding for regional universities.
Why this matters to school and university employees:
Reliable state funding protects jobs, supports fair compensation, maintains safe staffing levels, and ensures students receive the services they need. When education funding falls short, it is school workers and campus staff who feel the strain first — through heavier workloads, fewer resources, and growing uncertainty about the future.
Opposition to this bill is already organized and vocal. Lawmakers need to hear directly from the people who keep our schools and universities running every day. Your voice helps remind legislators that SB 6346 is about strong public education, stable careers, and respect for skilled education workers.
