UPDATE from Protect America’s workforce post from 12/3/25

On Dec. 11, after months of advocacy, working people forced the hand of the Speaker of the House and passed the Protect America's Workforce Act in the House of Representatives by a vote of  232-194, with 20 Republicans joining Democrats. The bill restores collective bargaining rights to federal workers and repeals Trump’s March Executive Order stripping collective bargaining rights from most federal workers. In the Senate, a group of Democrats have introduced a companion bill, but are still seeking bipartisan support.

Federal workers did not back down,” said SEIU Executive Vice President Heather Conroy in a press statement. “They organized and built a working majority in the House to pass the Protect America’s Workforce Act, even without the Speaker’s permission.

“The Senate must now follow suit to restore federal workers’ rights and vital services for all Americans. If federal workers are not protected, none of us are.”

Washington Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell have sponsored similar legislation and are expected to support H.R. 2550 if it comes up for a Senate vote.
